Good Morning, Islanders Country.

I’ve heard the word “blunt” a lot while watching Isles broadcasts this season.

It has nothing to do with the game and everything to do with Snoop Dogg and his Solo Stove commercial, which runs at least once a game.

Patrick Roy was a different type of blunt after Monday’s practice. The Isles head coach expressed himself in a direct, straightforward, and unvarnished manner. His comments, which were said without regard for diplomacy or subtlety, were directly at inconsistent yet talented forward Pierre Engvall.

Roy explained that he wasn’t sending a message. It’s just facts.

"It's very simple. Bring the puck to the net and stay around the net. That's it. Guys are playing better than he is …. We want consistency in this game. Hey, listen, we have a lot of players right now, and the competition is pretty good.”

Roy didn’t stop there, explaining how Engvall went from scoring goals in three consecutive games to being a healthy scratch. More than anything else, he’s looking for consistency and players willing to play on the inside, which Engvall, for whatever reason, is reluctant to do.

”For a period of time, four or five games, I'd say he was one of our good players,” Roy added. “When he starts playing on the outside, stops bringing pucks to the net, and stops being involved physically, he's just an average player."
