He may be underrated and underappreciated by most fans around the NHL, but Brock Nelson is not unknown to those in the know around the league.
Nelson was named to Team USA’s 4 Nations Face-off roster on Wednesday. It surprised some, but not those who have watched Nelson elevate his game from solid second-liner to All-Star and perennial 30+ goal scorer.
This mystery graphic tells the story. Nelson hasn’t caught fire offensively yet this season, but look at where he ranks among US players in rush and scoring chances. Plus, for rosters that are compiled with tons of offensive talent, Nelson has some of the better defensive statistics (Blocked passes, Stick checks) amongst forwards, making him a versatile option that couldn’t be passed up for Team USA.
