Hockey Night in NY

Good Morning, Islanders Country.

The “Always Believe” optimists are outnumbered by the “It’s Over” pessimists heading into Game 3 tomorrow night at UBS Arena. The Isles are down 2-0 as the series shifts back to Long Island, but it feels even worse than that, right?

Some fans branded Monday’s loss as “devastating,” while others ranked it among the worst playoff defeats in playoff history. There was hope, if not confidence, after Game 1’s loss. There was despair, if not defeat, after Game 2.

“It’s obvious, that one f*ing hurts… Right now, we’re just dealing with the sting.” - Anders Lee

It’s harder to do now than ever, but when I was younger, yesterday would have been a day where I avoided all TVs, newspapers, and radio to shield myself from thinking about a loss like the one we saw on Monday.

In my office, a co-worker who saw the score of the game around 8:30 PM and knows I am a fan, said “Nice win last night for your Isles!” I had to break the news to him that it was anything but that as I recapped the final minutes.

We’re all, to various degrees, dealing with the sting.

It makes watching the other playoff games less enjoyable and stays with you until the next game, when hopefully the Isles Faithful in attendance can shake it off and cathatrtically “shake the stable” to give the home team a needed boost.
