Good Morning, Islanders Country.

Things were supposed to get better with the return of Adam Pelech and Mathew Barzal. So far, they’ve gotten worse and ugly.

On Sunday, the Isles were a team with reasons to be optimistic and, dare I say, hopeful. Their star, face-of-the-franchise forward, and one of their top defenders was returning for a game against a team with the fewest points in the NHL. There was an opportunity to get over .500, be in a playoff spot, turn the page of the season, and turn the momentum in their favor.

Instead, The Isles are two games under .500 after 33 games; it is their worst record at this stage of the season since they were 9-19-5 in 2013-14.

Instead, after an embarrassing end to the game in Chicago, the Isles were simply embarrassed against Carolina. Even after playing for a stretch after falling behind 2-0, Patrick Roy could not muster a “we deserve better” even if the advanced analytics say otherwise. "We outshot them. That's something that's pretty tough to do in that building. So we must have done something good at some point."
