Good Morning, Islanders Country.
Every time you stop yourself and think, Okay, maybe this Matthew Schaefer thing is getting a little out over its skis, he does something that reminds you — no, the hype train isn’t racing ahead, it’s right on schedule.
Tuesday night was just the latest exhibit. The 18-year-old logged the first multi-point game of his NHL career and scored what stood as the would-be game-winner in the Islanders’ 4–3 victory over the Sharks.
Another night, another building chanting his name like he’s been here a decade: “MAT-THEW SCHAE-FER.”
He wasn’t just part of the win — he headlined it.
First star of the game. Louder ovation than anyone. And the parade of No. 48 sweaters keeps multiplying by the night. Hope doesn’t usually move this fast, but here it is, sprinting up the concourses.
To say he’s provided a spark barely scratches the surface.
