Good Morning, Islanders Country.
You knew the Islanders would be up against it last night. That much was obvious before the puck even dropped. But this is the time of year when “up against it” isn’t an excuse — it’s the expectation. It’s playoff time, whether the standings say you’re in or out, and that means desperation has to show up in every shift, every decision, every detail. Execution isn’t optional now. It’s everything.
And the Islanders just weren’t sharp enough when it mattered most.
Without Simon Holmstrom, they put together what you’d call a decent road effort. Structured enough. Competitive enough. The kind of game that, a few weeks ago, probably got you at least a point and maybe more. And when Anders Lee fired that puck into the crease, and it caught a piece of a skate to tie things up, it felt like one of those nights where you find a way. Not perfect, not pretty, but enough to steady things and leave with something.
That’s all you’re asking for right now. Something.
Instead, they got nothing.
