Good Morning, Islanders Country.
It's a Quick Fix featuring Joe Buono (@IslesFix) and former VP of Communications for the Islanders, Chris Botta (@ChrisBottaNHL).
With a bit of help from the rest of the Eastern Conference muck, the Isles have played well enough, long enough to put themselves in position for a third straight improbable close to the regular season, which will annoy and upset fans and pundits across the league - except on Long Island.
Chris and Joe reflect on a stretch of points earned and points that slipped away and talk about players that have stepped up post-trade deadline. Plus, the NHL is keeping the organization in All-Star Weekend limbo, and why Alexander Ovechkin’s trip to Long Island should be a hotter ticket than it is right now.
Listen and enjoy!
📚 SOUND SMART: Per Eric Hornick in The Skinny, Bo Horvat has three overtime goals this season, six as an Islander, and eleven in his NHL career. All six of his overtime goals have come in the last two seasons; John Tavares is the only other Islander with multiple seasons with at least three overtime goals.
🎥 ISLES REWIND: On Mar. 26, 1995, Ray Ferraro scored his 14th goal of the season after a shot deflected off Patrick Flatley’s face with 2:34 left in the third as the Isles rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie the eventual Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils 5-5 at the Nassau Coliseum. The game is also remembered for Claude Lemieux taking a cheap shot at Brett Lindros while defenseman Scott Stevens had the young defenseman over the NJ bench.
🔗 WFAN host Evan Roberts opens show with rant about the NY Islanders disallowed goal from last night by Michael Stahurski, Eyes on Isles “You know it has to be a big story when hockey is discussed over the New York radio airwaves. Though it wasn’t discussed in depth, Evan Roberts, host of the Evan & Tiki show on WFAN, opened up the show stating that he had to get something off his chest before moving on to the upcoming start of baseball season.”
🔗 Islanders unsure of what goalie interference is anymore by Andrew Gross, Newsday “The Islanders’ exasperation with goalie interference calls has been a season-long event. The angry reaction to Kyle Palmieri’s apparent winner against the Blue Jackets on Monday had its foundation in a non-call that went against them in Seattle four months ago, plus several other instances.”
