Quick Fix: Is The Season Over?

Time to raise the white flag on playoff hopes?

Good Morning, Islanders Country.

It's a Quick Fix featuring Joe Buono (@IslesFix) and former VP of Communications for the Islanders, Chris Botta (@ChrisBottaNHL).

The signs are flashing “SELL!” after the Islanders’ fourth straight loss, a 5-1 defeat to the New York Rangers on home ice, but should it also signal the raising of the white flag on their playoff hopes? Joe and Chris react to Arthur Staple’s reality check article in The Athletic on Wednesday.

Plus, we look at comparable trade returns for Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri and wonder if moves could go beyond the UFAs. Later, we talk about reports of a displeased Patrik Roy at practice. Finally, Chris discusses his brief stint as a radio color analyst with long-time play-by-play announcer Barry Landers, following a “Where are they now?” article by Neil Best in Newsday.

NEXT UP: The Islanders are in Boston tonight to take on the Bruins and snap a four-game losing streak. Face-off from TD Garden is set for 7:00 PM EST.

📊 STANDINGS:

📚 SOUND SMART: Per Eric Hornick in The Skinny, The Isles have lost four straight in regulation for the first time since November 7-13, 2023, and have been outscored 19-10 over the last four games. The Isles went 0-1 on the power play, and over the last 26 games, the Isles have been outscored 14-4 on the power play. It was the first time since December 23rd that the Isles trailed by multiple goals for the entire third period.

🎥 ISLES REWIND: On February 27, 1981, future Islanders captain Brent Sutter scored the first goal of his NHL career and added an assist in a 5-1 Isles’ win at Vancouver. The goal was Sutter’s first of 363 career goals, 287 of which came during his 12 seasons on Long Island. The younger Sutter brother also assisted on Mike Bossy’s 57th goal of the season. It was one of only three regular season games played for Sutter that season.

🔗 The New York Islanders’ season is over. What comes next? by Arthur Staple, The Athletic “They said they did a lot of good things. They said they were the better team. They said there were some bad bounces. To which we say: Does it matter? It’s over for the 2024-25 Islanders, who lost to the Rangers 5-1 on Tuesday.

🔗 Where are they now: Islanders radio broadcaster Barry Landers by Neil Best, Newsday Barry Landers is 82 and living in North Carolina now, but those are mere details. He still follows the Islanders, still reads Newsday, still spins yarns from the early 1970s about life on the road with the Long Island Ducks of the Eastern League. You can take the Long Island announcer out of the Island, but you can’t take the Island out of the announce.”

And we leave you with this…say his name and he appears …I believe in …Joe Hendry. The TNA Wrestling champ was on hand at UBS Arena on Tuesday night.
