Good Morning, Islanders Country.
It's a Quick Fix featuring Joe Buono (@IslesFix) and former VP of Communications for the Islanders, Chris Botta (@ChrisBottaNHL).
Wednesday proved it’s a seller's market, and the Islanders hold arguably the most valuable asset. The decision to trade or not trade Brock Nelson isn’t just about one player; it’s an inflection point for a franchise that has wanted its team to stay together and stay in playoff contention season after season rather than risk taking a step back to take multiple steps forward.
Chris and Joe reflect on Nelson’s emotional night at UBS Arena and discuss how Lou Lamoriello's path could affect how his tenure as Islanders GM is remembered by segments of the fanbase.

📚 SOUND SMART: Per Eric Hornick in The Skinny, Brock Nelson played his 901st game, passing Bob Nystrom for 4th place in club history. Nelson also passed Nystrom on the club assist list, tying Pat LaFontaine for 14th place with 279 assists. Nelson already holds an American record in goals (295) and points (574). Nelson reached 20 goals for the 9th time in his career, becoming the seventh player to do so as an Islander.
🎥 ISLES REWIND: On March 6th, 2021, Mathew Barzal scored the goal of the year when he went between his legs and past Carter Hutton of the Buffalo Sabres. Barzal and Scott Mayfield each had a goal and an assist as the Isles beat the Sabres 5-2 for their fourth straight victory. Semyon Varlamov made 20 saves as the Islanders improved to 9-0-2 at the Nassau Coliseum.
“Once I knew I had body position, I took it to the net,” Barzal said. ”I felt like Hutton was down. It was a lot of instinct, just being in the moment and reacting. I’d probably put it in my top two or three.”
🔗 Brock Nelson wrestling with possibility that he played final game with Islanders: ‘There’s a lot going on’ by Joe Pantorno, amNY “There’s a lot going on, for sure,” Nelson said following the 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets in which he scored a goal and added an assist. “I’ve said it, and I mean it, I’ve just been trying to worry about playing hockey even when there’s obviously more that goes into it in terms of other things and emotions.”
🔗 3 prospects the NY Islanders could target in a Brock Nelson trade by Michael Stahurski, Eyes on Isles “Moving the two, primarily Nelson, would allow the franchise to rebuild their prospect, or acquire assets for future deals. While the Isles should be recruiting a first-round pick in exchange for Nelson’s services, they’ll also be targeting prospects. Here are three prospects the Islanders could be targeting in a potential trade.”
