Quick Fix: Wait & See

What happens next will determine what happens next

Good Morning, Islanders Country.

It's a Quick Fix featuring Joe Buono (@IslesFix) and former VP of Communications for the Islanders, Chris Botta (@ChrisBottaNHL).

The Islanders failed to earn a point in their first game back from break, setting the stage for the next five games, which could determine whether they are a team fighting for a playoff spot or playing out the stretch. Chris believes that no matter what happens at the trade deadline, the focus should be on Islanders’ ownership and what they do next. Plus, Joe and Chris reflect on the massive success of the Four Nations Face-off and remember longtime MSG broadcaster and Long Islander Al Trautwig, who passed away, at the age of 68.

NEXT UP: The Islanders host the rival New York Rangers at UBS Arena for the first time this season. Face-off from Elmont, NY, is at 7:30 PM EST.

📊 STANDINGS:

📚 SOUND SMART: Per Eric Hornick in The Skinny, The Isles have lost four straight games in regulation in which they have scored at least three goals (the first time since November 1989) after going 23-4-4 prior to that this season.

🎥 ISLES REWIND: On February 25, 1994, goaltender Ron Hextall stopped 23 shots for his third consecutive shutout at Nassau Coliseum as the Islanders beat Eric Lindros and the Philadelphia Flyers 2-0. The victory moved the Islanders within six points of a playoff spot in the National Hockey League's Eastern Conference. Scott Lachance and Pierre Turgeon accounted for all the scoring Hextall would need to win his fifth game in his past six outings. It was Hextall’s fourth shutout of the season and eighth in his career.

🔗 Islanders Prospect Report: Feb. 24, 2025 via NewYorkIslanders.com Danny Nelson had a four-point weekend (2G, 2A) for Notre Dame including a three-point performance (1G, 2A) in a 7-3 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday. The Islanders’ 2023 second-round pick (49th overall) scored in the second period to cut the deficit to 4-2 and provided two helpers in the loss.”

🔗 New York Islanders have less than 25% chance to make the playoffs by Nextor Quixtan, Eyes on Isles “The New York Islanders have less than 25% to make the playoffs this season. That number stands out amid the reality of the New York Islanders’ current season. After Sunday night’s 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars, the Isles find themselves four points out of a wildcard spot with 26 games to go.”

And we leave you with this…longtime New York sportscaster Al Trautwig passed away on Monday at 68. Al was a native Long Islander, and years ago, he hosted a special called MSG Vault: Spring of 75 with Islanders JP Parise, Clark Gillies, and Chico Resch.
