Good Morning, Islanders Country.
It's a Quick Fix featuring Joe Buono (@IslesFix) and former VP of Communications for the Islanders, Chris Botta (@ChrisBottaNHL).
In this episode, Chris and Joe question why the team will travel with 12 forwards rather than make a call-up with Hudson Fasching and Simon Holmstrom not making the trip to Vegas. Plus, Arthur Kaliyev was claimed off waivers by the New York Rangers; why wasn’t he wasn’t worth a flyer for the Isles?
Later, we’ve all been impressed with Thomas Hickey’s seamless transition to the broadcast booth. Could another transition be in his future one day? We discuss the management case he’s making himself without trying to do so.

⏭ NEXT UP: The Islanders are back on the ice on Thursday night against the Vegas Golden Knights. Face-off is scheduled for 10:00 PM EST.
📊 STANDINGS:
📚 SOUND SMART: Per Eric Hornick in The Skinny, The Isles finished with 37 shots on goal in Boston on Sunday night; it is the first time since November 1st in Buffalo (28 games) that they had at least 35 shots on goal which was the 5th-longest such streak in team history. Also, defenseman Ryan Pulock became the 5th player in team history to score 50 career goals:
Denis Potvin 310
Tomas Jonsson 84
Kenny Jonsson 57
Stefan Persson 52
Ryan Pulock 50
🎥 ISLES REWIND: On Jan. 8, 2011, John Tavares scored the winner 3:52 into overtime as the Islanders defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in Denver. The Tavares’ goal made a winner of 20-year-old goaltender Kevin Poulin in his first NHL start. After allowing two goals in the first 1:47 of the game, Poulin settled in and stopped 34 shots. "He was great," said Tavares. "He stood on his head. Had a couple of big saves, let us get back into the game."
🔗 Gloom and doom? Islanders actually have reasons for hope this season by Andrew Gross, Newsday “The root has been a stale roster construction that has not infused enough new and younger talent into a core that peaked in 2020 and 2021. And now president and general manager Lou Lamoriello faces the prudent move of having to trade two of his top-six forwards in pending unrestricted free agents Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri even if the team pulls itself back into playoff contention.”
🔗 Why Islanders Patrick Roy Is Not Viewing Vegas Game As Measuring Stick by Stefen Rosner, The Hockey News “There's no measuring stick at this point. To me, at this point, it's let's go to Vegas. It's a tough building to play. They're really good at home. Let's play a good game, and let's see where we are. But regardless of this, we are going to have to be ready for the next one because we need that winning streak.”
And we leave you with this… Peter Schwartz was joined by Brent Sutter on Sports Bash to discuss his upcoming induction into the Islanders Hall of Fame
