Good Morning, Islanders Country.
Having a true ‘must-win’ game is a privilege, not a right. Who knows how many the Isles have left this season, but last night felt like one.
Last night was one of those ‘four-point games.’ A loss would have set the Isles 10 points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets, who held the second Wild Card entering the night and had a seven-game point streak (6-0-1). After the 3-1 win, the Isles now trail Boston by seven points in the carousel for the final playoff berth with two games in hand.
Heading into the season-long 7-game homestand, the Islanders needed 9-10 points minimum after winning three straight road games. Losing the first two gave them no margin of error, but they’re still within that after a solid team effort highlighted by three goals in 5:04 of the second period.
The win marked the first time they’ve won two straight at UBS Arena.
