Last night on Hockey Night in NY, Nobody likes drumming up bad memories, but Sean and Stefen had to dive in to the Isles rough Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium. NHL.com’s Brian Compton helped the fellas sort it all out ahead of a critical upcoming week.

Hockey Night in NY

Good Morning, Islanders Country.

One headline referred to Sunday’s New York Rangers comeback as “The Miracle on Turf,” a clever headline I would’ve come up with myself if I ran a Blueshirts newsletter. Yet, I must say that for us Islanders fans who have watched this team through 54 games, we know it would’ve only been a miracle if that didn’t happen.

That gut-punch loss took the wind out of the sails of a lot of Islanders fans.

They expended a lot of energy and emotion into attending or watching that game, doing so with a belief that after a week-long of practicing fundamentals and breaking bad habits, a win could turn the tide of the season once and for all.

For much of the afternoon and early evening, it looked that way, which made it hurt that much more and kept us feeling bitter. It’s been two steps forward and two steps back for this team all season. They won’t let you feel good for too long and remind you of that in brutal fashion over and over again.

For those who have lost faith, tonight in Pittsburgh is the first opportunity to reel you back in just a little, but every subsequent loss will drive even the true believers further away.
