Good Morning, Islanders Country.
Sometimes, a point is a point. You take it, you pocket it, you move on. You don’t frame it, you don’t linger on it. You shrug, maybe sigh, and remind yourself that there are 82 of these things and not every one needs to be a referendum. Saturday night was one of those nights for the Islanders — a 4–3 shootout loss to the Bruins, a game they led, led again, and re-led, but still couldn’t quite close.
It wasn’t a collapse. It wasn’t even disappointing for long. It was just hockey — hard, tight, and sometimes wide-open hockey that led to a disappointing result. For the second time in a week, the Bruins took two points from the Isles, and we’ll not know until the spring whether that means anything more.
There were still moments to hang your hat on. Bo Horvat scored twice, both of them goals that looked and felt like leadership — timely, emphatic, necessary. The veterans rallied again around Matthew Schaefer, who keeps getting hit and keeps getting back up, protected by teammates who clearly recognize what they’ve got in him. The Islanders even had a chance to snatch back-to-back dramatic wins with a late power play, but the puck just wouldn’t listen.
