Good Morning, Islanders Country.
The scoreboard in Denver will tell you one story: Avalanche 4, Islanders 1. However, for those of us who stayed up late once again, we know the truth is that the outcome didn’t match the final score.
Against the NHL’s best team, the Islanders didn’t just hang around. They pushed. They created chances. And for most of the night, they looked like a team worthy of the company they were keeping.
Down 2–1 in the final minutes, hope wasn’t drifting; it was building on the back of three straight OT winners. The Islanders have made a habit lately of summoning late magic, turning desperation into oxygen and overtime into a stage they own. They were chasing a fourth straight extra-time win, a fifth consecutive victory on the same road trip - something the franchise had never done.
And for a moment, it felt possible again. Playing 6-on-4 in the final minutes, chance after chance came, but Scott Wedgewood, Colorado’s goaltender, was the difference maker, slamming every door the Islanders tried to crack open.
